Alumni Reunion 2011

7 May

Over 260 alumni and friends of the University gathered to celebrate their 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th, 40th or 45th anniversary on campus. In spite of the weather, the day kicked off well with coffee and registration in the new Student Centre. Recognising old faces, alumni had the chance to reminisce with old classmates and staff before going on either a tour of their department led by academic staff, or a general campus tour led by this year’s student ambassadors.

The tours ended in the Claverton Rooms where graduates had a further chance to mingle over a glass (or two) of Pimms, and heard a little about how the University has changed over the years in an anecdotal speech given by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Glynis Breakwell. After a presentation to the furthest travelled alumni – jointly awarded to Fiona Brooks-Wood (BEng Manufacturing Engineering 1986) and Stephen Wood (BSc Mechanical Engineering with German 1986), and Nick and Lucy (both BSc Mathematics 1986) Collett from Australia – lunch was served.

In the afternoon Professor David Gillespie gave a lecture on how teaching on campus has changed since his arrival in 1985, which was followed by Convocation’s AGM and the election of alumni representatives to Council and Court. Many took this opportunity to do a self-guided tour of Campus with course friends, or to show their families around. The day’s formal activities were then rounded off with afternoon tea and cakes.

Several groups of alumni arranged to follow the day on Campus with a night in Bath city centre, re-visiting old haunts and paying tribute to their student years.

Offical photos of the day are available to view or buy.
