Alumna attends international training camp in Portugal
1 September 2010

Charlotte WalmsleyCharlie (Charlotte) Walmsley (Sport 2010) has recently retuned from an international training camp in Portugal for high potential trampoline athletes. Charlie's speciality is the double-mini-trampoline (DMT) and some of the world's leading exponents in this sport are Portuguese. The training camp was run in Loulé, just outside Faro, and at the camp were leading coaches from Portugal, Great Britain and Australia.

Charlie's participation at the training camp was greatly aided by having successfully competed for a Sports Travel Award funded by Santander at the University of Bath. These travel awards encourage the exchange of talented sportsmen and women between the University of Bath and countries in Portugal, Spain and a number of Latin American countries.

At the training camp Charlie focused on the initial DMT mount technique at which the Portuguese are highly accomplished. Charlie spent much of her time working with Portuguese coaches but she also had the opportunity of having two sessions with the three times DMT Ladies World Champion, Kylie Walker from New Zealand.

On her return Charlie commented that she "benefited immensely" from her training in Portugal and believes that she learned techniques and made valuable contacts that will greatly enhance her ongoing participation at a high level in this sport.
